Eastleigh have signed former Northampton Town left-back Ali Koiki on a short-term contract. The National League club announced the move on Friday, 16 October, confirming that the 27-year-old will be eligible for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth qualifying round tie against Brentwood Town, subject to National League and Football Association approval.
Koiki brings four seasons of Football League experience from his spell at Northampton, where he made 93 appearances across all competitions and scored twice. However, he arrives at the Silverlake Stadium after an injury-disrupted final season at Sixfields and an extended absence from senior first-team football, raising questions about how quickly he can regain match sharpness.
Proven pedigree in the Football League
Koiki came through the youth ranks at Crystal Palace before joining Burnley, where he signed his first professional contract in 2018. He spent time on loan at Swindon Town before returning to Burnley, then joined Bristol Rovers in 2020 and Northampton Town in 2021.
His four years with the Cobblers brought the most consistent football of his senior career. Koiki played 22 league games during the 2022/23 campaign as Northampton won promotion from League Two, and he remained with the squad for two seasons in League One. Opta Analyst’s career statistics record 82 league appearances and 11 domestic cup appearances for Northampton, matching the 93 appearances reported by Eastleigh.
Past injury setbacks and current fitness
Injuries stalled Koiki’s progress during the 2024/25 season. According to reports from The Real EFL in March 2025, a muscle problem sidelined him for much of the campaign before a thigh injury halted his return.
Northampton manager Kevin Nolan confirmed the thigh setback on 28 March 2025, stating that the defender would be out for a period and would not be rushed back. Koiki finished the 2024/25 season with only five League One appearances and left Northampton when his contract expired that summer.
Those setbacks explain why Koiki has played so little senior football since early 2025, though they do not establish his physical condition today. Eastleigh have not disclosed any current fitness concerns. Even so, returning to regular action after a long break is a test for any full-back.

Why the short-term move suits both sides
Koiki joins an Eastleigh side looking to recover after consecutive National League defeats. Following a 1-1 draw with Southend United on 30 September, Matt Gray’s team lost 3-1 at home to Woking on 3 October and suffered a 2-0 defeat at Hornchurch seven days later.
Defensive errors contributed to both losses. Against Woking, Eastleigh gave away a penalty equalizer and fell behind in the second half after a poor pass out from the back. Hornchurch then punished the Spitfires on a counter-attack before scoring a second goal from a corner. Eastleigh’s report from the Hornchurch match also noted that forward Hady Ghandour missed out through injury and captain Jordan Cousins was forced off during the first half.
Eastleigh have not stated that Koiki was signed to fix a specific problem at left-back, and one addition does not automatically cure wider defensive mistakes. Instead, a short-term deal of undisclosed length allows the club to assess an experienced defender while adding cover to the squad. For Koiki, the contract offers a practical chance to prove his fitness and earn competitive minutes.
Whether Koiki features against Brentwood Town on Saturday will depend on formal clearance arriving in time and Gray’s team selection. The FA Cup tie at the Silverlake Stadium provides the first opportunity to see how the defender fits into Eastleigh’s plans.
